Samuel Pepy in his famous diary. On the 'beach' a hangman's noose has been erected in the honour of the 'Hanging Judge' Jeffries who was a local at The Prospect. Apparently the noose is located nearby to where the infamous pirate Captain Kidd was hanged in 1701.
